09-12-2021

Dr Liz Nicol has joined the Logika Group as a Principal consultant within the Environmental Policy & Economics team. Liz is an environmental toxicologist with over 8 years of experience specialising in understanding the source, fate and effects of chemicals in the environment.

Liz has delivered and managed projects for the UK Environment Agency, Defra, European Commission, European Environment Agency (EEA) and European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

Her expertise lies in the area of emerging contaminants and has led to her completing work on the risks associated with endocrine disruptors in drinking water, hazards and effects of intentionally added microplastics, prioritising chemical risks to groundwater from practices such as land spreading of waste and identifying contaminants of emerging concern to surface waters. In addition to this, Liz has managed international work on POPs under the Stockholm Convention, reviewed global chemical regimes beyond EU REACH and completed studies to support the recent work on the broad restriction of PFAS and the zero pollution ambition of the EU.

Prior to this she completed a PhD in aquatic ecotoxicology and is still actively involved in the research community sitting on the UK council for the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) and regularly attends UK Chemical Stakeholder Forum meetings at Defra.

Ben Grebot, Director of Environmental Policy & Economics said “I am delighted that Liz has joined us at a really exciting time for both the team and wider group. Her background is very complementary to the skills and experience of the wider team and helps to expand our capabilities on both the chemicals and water fronts. Liz will be helping us with a number of our newer project wins including work for the UK Government around the 25 Year Environment Plan and socioeconomic impacts of chemicals pollution as well as work for the European Commission supporting the impact assessment for the revision of the REACH Regulation.”

On her appointment, Liz said “This is a brilliant time to be joining the Environmental Policy & Economics Practice at the Logika Group due to the rapidly evolving landscape of European and international environmental policy. I am looking forward to working with such a diverse group of colleagues, partners and clients to deliver policy projects that better protect citizens and the environment.”
