To explore the viability of various ecosystem services markets in Warwickshire, including a carbon offsetting market, an air quality market, and the development of a Warwickshire Carbon Standard. 

Purpose of project

To provide advice to Warwickshire County Council on developing ecosystem services markets within Warwickshire’s local authority consenting regimes.

What we are delivering

  • An investigation into the viability of a carbon offsetting market by estimating the number of carbon credits that could be generated through a proposed county-wide Net Zero Carbon policy requiring the offsetting of residual carbon emissions from developments and establishing the extent to which this could fund the council’s ambitions for tree planting across Warwickshire.
  • Proposing criteria for a Warwickshire Carbon standard to result in the sale of high standard and high integrity carbon credits, which also provide local biodiversity and landscape benefits.
  • An investigation of the potential for an innovative air quality market in Warwickshire to offset the nitrogen deposition impacts on priority habitats caused by development.
