Development of a strategy for the review of the chemical BREFs series.
European Commission – DG Environment
To review the current scope of the chemical Best Available Technique (BAT) Reference (BREFs) series and prepare potential options and recommendations for their future review. Consult with key stakeholders across the EU including competent authorities, industry representatives and NGOs to gather views on potential options for the strategy.
The eight original chemical BREFs were drawn up under the IPPC Directive in the period 1997 to 2007. The size, structure and content of these eight BREFs varies markedly and, over time, some have been revised under the IED. This project builds on previous work carried out by the EIPPCB to develop a strategy for the review of the chemical BREFs series.
Mapping of the scope of the chemical BREFs series to identify overlaps, gaps and any possible areas for improvement taking into account the policy context of the European Green Deal
Draft strategy setting out which BREF documents should be reviewed and their order of priority
Stakeholder consultation on the draft strategy for the review of the chemical BREFs series, including interviews, focus groups and a workshop with the IED Article 13 forum members
A final strategy document including options and recommendations for the review of the BREFs series.
