To explore air quality challenges in urban areas, identifying contributing factors to poor air quality, and providing recommendations to improve air quality in cities in Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland and Romania. 

Purpose of project

To inform the development of the World Bank’s Sustainable Cities Implementation Framework for Europe and Central Asia. 

What we delivered

  • Review of evidence and datasets to determine the air quality context of cities in Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland, and Romania, exploring emission trends by key source sectors and air quality trends. 
  • Identified key performance drivers in each country, including policy and legislation, institutions and capacities, and financing.
