Katie Hobson

MSci, Phd

Katie is a Consultant in the Environmental Policy and Economics team and joined the company in 2023.

Katie joined EPE from DEFRA, where she was a scientist in the International Chemicals team. She worked on a number of Multilateral Environmental Agreements and Frameworks under the UN Environment Programme, including the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants and the politically-binding Beyond 2020 Framework for ‘the sound management of chemicals and waste’. She has also developed international sustainable chemistry initiatives working closely with UN organisations as well as being the UK deputy for the EU Partnership for the Assessment of Risk from Chemicals (EU PARC).

Katie has an MSci and PhD in Chemistry from University College London. Her doctoral research centred around the development of environmentally benign catalysts for use in the synthesis of organoborane compounds, using aluminium as a cheap, non-toxic and Earth abundant metal.

Ben Marner compiled the Air Quality chapter for the Broadmoor Hospital ES, which I co-ordinated. He did a thoroughly excellent job and I have recommended him for more work and bids since then. I would have no hesitation in using him again on any ES I was leading, for any type of development.
